Marching Band

The Mitchell Marching Band is comprised of all instrumental students in the band program.  The group is part extra curricular and part curricular (band meets both outside of school day and during day as well).  The marching band meets outside of school at the end of the summer and every other day before school.  The class part meets during Black 1 through first semester. You can find the schedule for this coming fall here!

 FAQs

  • The answer is a little complicated. Because our school calendar is split into two semesters, the short answer is yes! If you want to be in band all year long (and you DO have to be enrolled in band first semester to try out for jazz band, show pit, etc), you do need to be in marching band in the fall. If you choose to just be one of the symphonic bands, you wont start band until after Christmas break.

  • The marching band does have some committments outside of the school day. We always have our marching band camp which meets two weeks before school starts in the mornings. Once the school year starts, the marching band rehearses every Gold day from 7-8AM. We also rehearse on Black days as well..but our class time is first period. In the beginning of the season, we will keep that starting time of 7AM but then eventually move that 8AM. We rehearse on black days until the end of B1 (9:50AM).

  • ABSOLUTELY! There are always going to be scenarios where there are some unavoidable conflicts with performances. Our practice times RARELY conflict with anything becuase most of the other activities meet after school or in the evening. The coaches in our district are very good to work with because we all know in a school this size, we all need to try to make it work so kids can do multiple things!

  • Again, complicated answer here. Because it is a class that you sign up for and it is graded, it IS a curricular class. Because marching band meets outside of the school day and our competitions are always on Saturdays, it is also a extra-curricular activity as well.

  • There are some small fees that every marching band member will encounter. Some of these examples would be t-shirts, marching band shoes, etc. We have a FABULOUS booster organization that helps support students that cant afford these costs!
