Why Join Band?

“Most of my most memorable memories have all been from when I was in the MHS band program. Being involved with music during high school was without a doubt my favorite part of those four years. I encourage anyone, even those on the fence, to try and be a part of the band program. Most of my closest friends are all people that I met while participating in band. Anyone involved with band will be sure to meet lots of new people, and make lots of new friends. The best part about the MHS band program is Mr. Stahle and how he sets up his students for success. Mr. Stahle's teachings ensure that his students will succeed not only in the music ensembles, but also in the real-world. I would not be the musician and person that I am today without Mr. Stahle's teaching and instruction. He makes sure that anyone, regardless of playing ability, can enjoy listening, playing, and learning about music. Anyone that participates in Mr. Stahle's band program will have an incredible time, and will be set-up for success in the future!.”

"My high school band experience began my lifelong journey in music, a journey which has taken me to my current position as a college educator. I would strongly encourage any middle school musician to pursue band in high school, regardless of his or her interest in a career in music. Not only does high school band provide students with friendships that will last a lifetime, but will foster in them crucial life skills that will shape them into stronger young adults. I can happily say that without Mr. Stahle and the high school band program, I wouldn’t be anywhere near the person I am today!"
William Flynn - Professor of Jazz Guitar @Wichita State University
"I am so thankful for my high school years in the Mitchell Band Program. I wasn't into band in middle school and my parents made me try one year of high school band. After that first year, I was hooked. Mr. Stahle is an amazing teacher who pushed me to be a better human and musician. I had so many fun experiences in band like performing in Disney’s EPCOT parade, competing at Youth in Music in the US Bank Stadium, pranking Mr. Stahle, traveling to jazz band competitions, and the list goes on and on. Band is hard work, but it is rewarding to create something beautiful with your friends".
