About Mr. Stahle

Ryan Stahle is a 1997 graduate of the University of South Dakota. After completing his degree, he started his teaching career as the assistant director at Farmington high school in the Minneapolis area. While living in the twin cities, he had the privilege of playing in the Bloomington Medalist Band under the direction of Dr. Earl Benson and the Waseca Area Big Band under the direction of Kim Cosens. In 2003, he moved back to his hometown of Mitchell and is the director of bands at Mitchell High School. Since Ryan Stahle has taken over the program at Mitchell High School, all of the ensembles have seen success and growth. His jazz bands have consistently received high honors including 1st place at the Augustana Jazz Festival, Coyote Jazz Festival, Optimist Jazz Festival and the South Dakota Jazz Festival. The Mitchell High School Marching Band has made finals at Festival of Bands (one of the Midwest’s largest marching competitions) in 8 of the 10 years they have attended that competition. The MHS Marching Band has won its class at the Pride of the Dutchmen Field Championships in Orange City for the last 9 years. His symphonic bands have consistently received superior ratings at large group contest and his groups have traveled to New York City in 2005/2011, Disney World in 2009/2013 and San Francisco in 2007.
He is the state chairman of the South Dakota All-State Jazz Band and is a member of the South Dakota High School Activities Association Music Advisory Committee. He is an active performer in the area as well - performing with the South Dakota Jazz Orchestra, Massive Brass Attack and Main Avenue Warehouse. He and his wife Nicole have two children, Hunter and Atlanta.
