MHS Jazz Students and Parents,
On Thursday, January 23rd, the jazz band will be traveling to the 2020 South Dakota Jazz Festival in Aberdeen on the campus of NSU. Included on this sheet is the information you need to know for our trip. Please be aware of our load/departure times and especially our warm-up and performance times.
Make sure you have everything that you need for the performance before we leave Mitchell. Rhythm section is in charge of your own equipment (this includes loading, setting up, tear down, etc).

Just so the parents are aware, this is not a competition (more of an early season educational opportunity). You are more than welcome to come up and watch/listen but we are not competing.

Dear Band Parents,
This past marching season, we saw many of our wonderful parents come out and support our students by hanging posters, offering treats to band members, sending off the band to competitions and cheering us on at our performances. These things were DEFINITELY noticed by our students and though they may not express it aloud….it was important to them! We were really excited with some of these new ideas and want your input and ideas for more ways to further support our wonderful band students.
To move forward with this amazing energy we saw this fall, we are scheduling a meeting for our band boosters ahead of the regular monthly music booster meetings. Our first monthly meeting will be on Monday, December 9th at 6:30PM in the band room. The purpose of this additional meeting is so we can concentrate on band-specific topics. This will allow parents to be at this meeting and then attend the show choir portion if applicable. We are trying to give each of these amazing programs a specific time in the evening so that each program can have a time to concentrate on their needs.
Each parent brings a unique perspective and potential ideas to the table, so please join us! We need each of you to help in growing our instrumental program. These students work so hard. Let’s work hard to support them!

What’s better than one MHS fan cheering at the contests on Saturday? A whole block of fans cheering!
It’s important to the band and color guard to know that they can see and hear their fans in the stands when they perform. So, this season we are going to make a big effort to make sure they can see and hear us!
For each contest, make sure to wear your Band Fan Gear and then come early enough to find a spot to sit with fellow fans.
A group of us will aim to find a block of seats on the right side of the field (left side of the stands), as close to between the 45 and 50 yards lines, and as high up as we can go.

On Saturday, September 21st, we will be traveling to Marshall, MN to compete in the Pursuit of Excellence marching band competition. Marshall is always a great competition because it allows us to work with clinicians during the day before we compete. This is a jam packed day full of exciting musical experiences for the kids and as you can see by the arrival time home...a long day as well! Below is a schedule of events for that day.
