Tomorrow night is our annual boat parade and lake retreat. Below is some information for everyone.
The kids will meet out at the Lake Mitchell Day Camp. The address is: 939–1399 Indian Village Road. You shouldn't miss it...but some people confuse it with the Sportsman Beach Club. The Day Camp is the one just west of the Sportsman Beach Club.
The kids are welcome to come out to the Day Camp anytime after 5PM. We will be serving the food around 5:30PM. We will then load the kids up on the pontoons around 6:30PM.
You can find any place along Lake Mitchell to watch the boat parade but most people gather at the Amphitheater, the Public Beach or the Sportsman Beach Club to watch the kids. We will start in the bay outside of the Day Camp and then go to Amphitheater first, then the public beach and finish in the bay where we started (traveling counter-clockwise around the lake).
We will have pizza, snacks and water. If your child needs something different or in addition to this, have them bring what they need. If you signed up to bring something via SignUpGenius, please have your child bring along that night to the Day Camp (not to school like the signup stated).
The boat parade is usually wrapped up by 8PM and the kids usually leave around 8:30PM. Please have your kids picked up by 8:30PM as we usually clean up the place and lock up at that point.
If anyone has questions, don't hesitate to reach out! Looking forward to another fun event!
If you were unable to attend the band parent meeting last night....please see the outline below. Couple of things to note from last night that were discussed:
1) Please note the schedule change for the parent community show. This date is now Tuesday, September 4th at 7PM at Joe Quintal Stadium.
2) Picture forms were available last night for pictures with Linda McEntee. If you were not there last night, have your child pick those up this week at camp and bring home. Picture date is Tuesday, August 28th at 7AM.
3) PLEASE CONSIDER SIGNING TO HELP THE BAND THIS YEAR if you havent already. Last night we discussed all the committees that need help. Links to those events on signup genius is on the front page of the website.
4) We talked about camp....that information is in the other blog post.
Let me know if anyone has any questions! Looking forward to another great year!
We are getting close to the start of another marching band camp! This week is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT to the success of this season! Here are a couple of things to remember and make you aware of below:
Please do not forget to bring a LARGE water bottle to camp on Monday. It is VERY IMPORTANT to stay hydrated during these next few weeks (dont worry - we take plenty of breaks). Even if you dont think you need water...you will want access to it at all times! Also, dont forget to bring sunscreen (and use it), bug spray, comfortable athletic shoes (NO SANDALS OR FLIP FLOPS) and your instrument. Dont forget to bring a lunch or money to eat out as lunch is not provided at camp.
Every year, Cheryl Miller (the most popular person this week) will be helping us set up snacks for everyone in the breaks. Please bring a non-perishable item to share during these breaks (some items that have been brought in the past would be cookies, crackers, etc.). We may ask everyone to bring another snack later in the week if we are running low. When you arrive on Monday, please put your items in the hallway in a group so Cheryl can grab during that first break!
DRESS UP SCHEDULE
The drum majors announced this week that the following dress up days will be:
August 6 - Neon Day
August 7 - 80’s Day
August 8 - Tie-dye
August 9 - Beach Day
August 10 - Crazy Hat Day
August 13 - Black and Gold Day
August 14 - Camo Day

You don't have to do this....just if you want to! They will be giving away prizes (usually popsicles - which are great after a day of camp) to the winning person. Just remember - dont come dressed in something that interferes with your ability to march!

The following below is a list of band students that have completed their doctor's physicals. If your name is not on the list and you think this is an error, please reach out to Cory Aadland or the office ASAP. Remember - if you do not have this complete by August 6th, you CAN NOT practice (this will mean you will sit on the sidelines and watch but can not participate). This would be disastrous to the progress of our camp! Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter!
As many of you are aware, we have had GREAT SUCCESS with our foreign exchange students here at MHS. Virginia Lambert is looking for a family for a special student from Italy (see note below from Alessandro). Please take a moment to read about this student and consider hosting this year! If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Virginia (email@example.com, 605.940.1311). Thanks so much for considering!
"I just turned 17 on July 5 -- the day after USA's Independence Day! my family includes my mother and father, my sister who is older than me, my grandmother and my great grandfather. live with my mom and our dog and two cats in Anzio, a city of 50,000 to 75,000 about two hour drive from Rome, Italy.
I love to play the guitar. In fact, I play every day. I like all sorts of music, rock, blues and folk music. I also enjoy watching movies, sports, shopping, fishing and listening to music. I am looking forward to spending a year in America to learn more about your culture and meet new people. I love learning and trying new things, Roman history and doing science experiments.
In addition to enjoying music I practice martial arts and play volleyball. I love watching and playing football, basketball, volleyball and other sports. Last year my volleyball team won the regional volleyball championship.
I help my mom and grandma cook and they are very good Italian cooks, so I hope I can share some of this with my host family. I also help keep the house clean by vacuuming and doing dishes.
I love to travel and am really excited to spend time having fun with my host family."
In case you missed the incoming freshman meeting, please check out documents below. As always, please contact me if you have any questions!
